Through RMC language interpretation programme, locals and foreign nationals work together to assist refugees and asylum seekers from non-English speaking countries, to apply for asylum or access any other services at the Refugee Reception offices.
RMC has been providing the Department of Home Affairs with these services since May 2008. At first it was during the xenophobic outbreaks at the temporary shelters, then a pilot project in Johannesburg and Pretoria's Refugee Reception Offices until 2009, when the project was rolled nationwide.
This breakthrough was achieved through RMC's continued asylum access monitoring and giving regular feedback to the Department of Home Affairs on the main contributor to the rampant corruption at the Refugee Reception offices. Those easily exploited were asylum seekers and refugees coming from non-English speaking countries.
RMC through this project, employs 250 refugees and South African nationals.
