RMC is currently providing Paralegal Training to refugee communities with the aim of empowering these communities to be able to solve most of their problems or at least be in a position to offer the most needed and important first help. Trainings have been conducted so far in Gauteng, Western Cape and Kwazulu Natal provinces and the response has been very positive as communities realise how much power they have to make a difference. These trainings have been attended by refugee and local community members.
Further trainings are lined up for other provinces in the months of April and May, communities in Port Elizabeth and Musina are welcome to register. Refugee Ministries Centre was founded in 2004 as an Ecumenical Ministry to Refugees by the Methodist Churches of Southern Africa and St Mary’s Anglican Cathedral in Johannesburg, to respond to the post 1994 influx of refugees into South Africa, mainly from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Pakistan, Algeria, Kashmir and Zimbabwe.
